Restylane® Contour is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler used for cheek augmentation and to correct midface contour deficiencies in patients over the age of 21.

    Why Choose Restylane® Contour

Restylane® Contour contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar found in the body that supports skin moisture, volume, and elasticity. The filler also contains a small amount of lidocaine, a local anesthetic commonly used to numb the skin.

According to Galderma, the filler’s maker, “Restylane® Contour is crosslinked with BDDE, an ingredient that helps form a network of HA, to provide a gel filler that lasts longer at the treatment site.”

While other fillers can sometimes leave the cheeks looking stiff and immobile, Restylane® Contour uses XpresHAn Technology™ to create a flexible, smooth gel that integrates well into the skin and moves as the face moves. This not only supports a more natural-looking contour of the cheeks, but may also require less filler. Results may last up to 48 weeks.

XpresHAn Technology™ was also used to create Restylane® Kysse and Restylane® Defyne fillers, and Restylane® Contour is the first filler to utilize the technology for cheeks. A study of 137 patients found that 91% saw improvement in midface fullness 12 weeks after injection.

Restylane® Contour is a great temporary alternative to permanent surgical options like fat grafting, cheek implants, and the minimal-access deep-plane extended face-lift.

    Benefits of Restylane® Contour

The filler temporarily restores and adds volume to the midface for increased fullness of the cheeks. A study of 131 patients found that 88.5% of patients had at least a 1-point improvement in midface volume six months after treatment.

    How to Prepare

Before scheduling treatment, patients should discuss with their provider:

    • Goals and expectations
    • Medical history, including any bleeding disorders
    • Any blood thinning medications they may be taking
    • Any immunosuppressants they may be taking
    • Any history of excessive scarring or pigmentation
    • Recent skin therapies, such as laser treatment, mechanical or chemical peels, or hair removal

During the consultation, the provider will inform the patient of potential complications and risks of treatment and explain the process.

Restylane® Contour is not recommended for patients with:

    • Severe allergies and a history of anaphylaxis
    • A history of multiple severe allergies
    • A history of allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins
    • A history of allergies to lidocaine

The filler is also not recommended for patients who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant.

    What to Expect

The provider will begin by cleansing the treatment area and applying a topical anesthetic to numb the injection site. He or she will then begin by making the first injection and pausing to allow the anesthetic in the filler to continue to numb the injection site.

The provider will continue making the injections until the treatment area shows the desired results. The treatment area will be gently massaged to ensure the dermal filler is distributed evenly and appears natural.

    Potential Side Effects and Risks

After treatment, patients may experience the following temporary side effects:

    • Bruising
    • Redness
    • Itching
    • Swelling
    • Pain
    • Tenderness

Most side effects resolve within one to two weeks after treatment.
