Photofractional Laser treatment combines the IPL and ResurFX™ lasers to remove skin imperfections and deliver visible results.

    What is IPL Treatment?

IPL, which stands for Intense Pulsed Light, is a form of light therapy that releases many different wavelengths of light to treat a range of skin conditions. Also referred to as a photofacial, fotofacial, or sometimes known as photorejuvenation, IPL uses scattered light to penetrate down to the second layer of the skin without harming the top layer and doing less overall damage, compared to other lasers.

The skin’s pigment cells absorb the light energy from the laser and convert it into heat, which then destroys the unwanted pigment and helps to clear up freckles and other spots. The heat also destroys hair follicles for effective hair removal.

What is Skin Resurfacing ResurFX™ Treatment?

Skin Resurfacing ResurFX™ treatment uses a nonablative fractional laser that uses narrow beams of energy to target certain portions of the skin’s surface. This is a less aggressive option, compared to ablative lasers, with minimal downtime. After treatment, individuals won’t need to deal with peeling, oozing, and crusting that occurs after ablative CO2 laser treatment.

By using both IPL and ResurFX™ technologies, clients can address both skin pigmentation and texture concerns within one session.

The IPL laser removes both unwanted pigmentation and blood vessels from the skin, while the ResurFX™ fractional laser stimulates collagen production and the growth of elastic fibers in the deeper layers of the skin. Increased collagen production promotes more radiant, youthful looking skin.

    Other benefits include:

    • Effectively addresses the early signs of aging
    • Provides noticeable results for pigmentation, age/sun spots, fine lines, and overall skin appearance
    • Requires minimal downtime, allowing individuals to resume daily activities after treatment

    What to Expect During Treatment

To minimize discomfort, the skincare professional will apply a topical numbing cream before treatment and/or use air cooling during treatment. The entire procedure can last 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the client’s unique skin condition and goals.

During the procedure, clients may feel a warm or prickling sensation as the laser is applied to the skin, but shouldn’t experience any pain.

    Recovery Process

For two days after treatment, clients may experience swelling. Other side effects, such as redness and sensitivity may last up to five days after treatment. Applying cold compresses to the skin can help minimize these symptoms.

After treatment, it’s important to avoid:

    • Picking at any scabs or flakes, as this can lead to hyperpigmentation
    • Applying harsh skincare ingredients (retinoids, physical exfoliants, acids, etc.) as the skin heals
    • Excessive sun exposure for at least three months
